The Guilt Between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth Essay - 1039 Words

You can control guilt or guilt will drive you into madness. In the novel, Macbeth, guilt has taken over two of the main characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, but each one responds to it in a different way. Their similarities and differences are quite obvious and both are driven to their actions by this feeling. It will eventually cause both of them a breakdown, affecting their behaviors and resulting them into going through a psychological incapacity. Lady Macbeth is a vicious and overly ambitious woman, her desire of having something over rules all the moral behaviors that one should follow. On the beginning of the novel, Macbeth receives the news that if Duncan, the current king, passed away he would be the next one to the throne. Macduff is the one to announce the murder of the king, and when Lady Macbeth comes out as the trumpets screamed because of such an acquaintance he tells her, â€Å"Oh, gentle lady, ‘tis not for you to hear what I can speak. The repetition in a woman’s ear would murder as it fell.† Lady Macbeth acts as if she could not believe and fakes a faint with the most common and normal behavior as if nothing had happen, as if she was not the brain of such a cruel crime. Her cold blood and fakeness is incomparable on the beginning of the novel. Lady Macbeth does not understand why Macbeth is so guilty and is not enjoying his throne and power that were recently earned. As a â€Å"good† wife she tries to calm him down by saying that what he had done was nothing that it was all okay. Later on the novel another crime occurs in order to keep Macbeth’s throne safe. Banquo and Fleance are two of the next victims in Macbeth’s hit list. He had murderers to execute his job. The three murderers come back with the news that only Banquo was dead and that Fleance had escaped. Macbeth receives the news during a dinner that was held on the castle, where all members of the royalty were present except Macduff, Banquo, and Fleance.
